Wedding at Chateau Robernier | Provence, France

I've photographed three weddings at Château Robernier now, and I'm returning again in September. That's not a coincidence. Some venues pull you back — the setting is exceptional, the weddings it attracts tend to be exceptional, and every time you leave, you already know you want to come back.

Robernier is that kind of venue.

Amanda and Adrien's wedding — a hundred guests, Swiss couple, late summer in Provence — was the first time I photographed here. Two years later, it's still one of the weddings I show people when they ask what a Provence wedding can look like at its best.

Château Robernier — The Venue

Château Robernier sits in Montfort-sur-Argens, in the Var department of Provence. It's in the Var, accessible from Toulon, Aix-en-Provence, and the French Riviera. Surrounded by vineyards and century-old plane trees, it looks exactly like what people picture when they imagine a French château wedding. And then it exceeds it.

The château itself is the backdrop for the ceremony, held on the grass in front of the building. Stone façade, symmetrical architecture, vineyards stretching behind. It's one of the most naturally photogenic ceremony setups I've worked with — nothing needs to be added, nothing needs to be hidden.

After the ceremony, guests move to the cocktail area. Dinner is served in the château's inner courtyard. In the evening, a wooden dance floor goes down in that same courtyard — guinguette lights overhead, stone walls glowing around the crowd. This is the setup for around 90% of weddings here. It works every time.

Amanda & Adrien's Wedding at Château Robernier

Around a hundred guests, a Swiss couple, and the kind of crowd that arrives relaxed and leaves having danced until they couldn't anymore.

Getting Ready at the Château

Amanda got ready inside the château. The rooms are remarkable — high ceilings, period details, light through tall windows that wraps everything in warmth. The atmosphere was calm and focused, the kind of preparation morning where you can feel the day building without anyone rushing.

Adrien and his groomsmen were elsewhere in the château. Less calm. More laughter.

The Ceremony in Front of the Château

The ceremony took place on the lawn in front of the château — stone façade behind the couple, vineyards in the distance. A floral arch framed the moment. A hundred people watched two people they love make a promise to each other.

It was serene and beautiful. The kind of ceremony where the setting does a lot of the work, and the couple just has to show up and mean it. Amanda and Adrien meant it.

The Cocktail — with a Ukulele Band

After the ceremony, guests moved to the cocktail area. A ukulele band played throughout — cheerful, warm, completely unexpected in the best way. The musicians were excellent. Light and festive, the sound carried across the Provençal countryside and set a tone for the whole evening. Local wines, Provence specialties, the afternoon light fading slowly over the vineyards.

Couple Session at Sunset

I took Amanda and Adrien into the olive trees and gardens for their couple session as the sun started to drop. The light in late afternoon at Robernier is something I look forward to every time I work here. Warm, directional — it does most of the work for you. We walked, we talked, we made some of the most beautiful frames of the day.

Dinner and Dancing in the Inner Courtyard

Dinner was in the château's inner courtyard. Long tables, candlelight, stone walls rising on all sides. Then the dance floor — wooden parquet in the courtyard, guinguette lights strung overhead, a live band that kept the energy high until late into the night.

The moment I keep coming back to from this wedding is just before dinner. The dancing had already started — not the formal first dance, just the spontaneous kind that happens when a band is good and a crowd is ready. Stone walls, guinguette lights, a good band in an enclosed space — the atmosphere it creates is hard to replicate. A hundred people moving together under the Provence sky. Some moments you don't plan. You just make sure you're ready when they happen.

The ceremony is in front of the château — and that's the right choice. Stone façade, symmetry, vineyards behind. Don't overthink it. This is one of the rare venues where the obvious setup is also the best one.

Plan your couple session for the hour before sunset. The light in the vineyards at Robernier in late afternoon is extraordinary. Build it into your timeline — it's the part of the day that consistently produces the images couples print and frame.

The inner courtyard at night is the highlight. Stone walls, guinguette lights, a good band — trust the setup. It works.

I've photographed weddings at Chateau Eza more than twenty times now. And every single time, walking through those narrow cobblestone streets with a couple on their wedding day, I feel the same thing — this place is different. Not just beautiful. Different.

Medieval stone, Mediterranean pines, and that drop to the sea. It makes everything feel more cinematic, more intimate, more real. As a wedding photographer based on the French Riviera, I've had the privilege of working in some extraordinary locations. But Château Eza holds a special place.

What Makes Château Eza So Unique for a Wedding

Château Eza isn't just a venue. It's a 14th-century fortified village. Perched 400 metres above the Mediterranean, halfway between Nice and Monaco. Every stone wall, every terrace, every archway has a story.

But what matters for your wedding day isn't the history — it's what that setting does to your photos.

The light here is unlike anywhere else on the Riviera. The village faces south-west and sits above the coastline. Golden hour light pours in at the perfect angle — warm amber on the stone facades, long shadows through the alleys. I've shot sunsets from that main terrace that I genuinely couldn't have dreamed up.

The venue also has a Michelin-starred restaurant on site. That alone sets the tone for your guests' experience.

The Two Wedding Spaces at Château Eza

One thing that surprises many couples is that Château Eza actually offers two distinct wedding settings, and they create completely different atmospheres.

The Restaurant Terraces — for ceremonies up to 38 guests

This is the space you've probably seen in photos. It's a double terrace — two levels stacked one above the other, both looking out over the Mediterranean. The upper terrace is where the ceremony typically takes place, with the sea as your backdrop. The lower terrace becomes the aperitif space. Guests sip champagne as the light shifts over the water. I've shot first looks on that upper terrace with Monaco glittering behind them. No filter, no editing trick. Just the light and the place doing what they do.

The Royal Salon Terrace — for intimate weddings up to 15 guests

Planning something truly intimate? The Royal Salon terrace is extraordinary. It's private, it's quiet, and it has a completely different feel: more romantic, more secret. This is the space I'd choose if I were getting married.Both spaces are privatisable, which means the entire experience is yours.

Emily & Conor's Wedding at Château Eza — June 2024

Some weddings stay with you. Emily and Conor's was one of them.

They flew in from the United States with 12 guests — family and close friends — and chose Château Eza for their ceremony in June 2024. It was an evening wedding, which is exactly what I always recommend here (more on that below). The light that night was something else.

Before the ceremony, I was with Emily and her mother in one of the rooms as she got ready. Her mum was buttoning her dress. She didn't say a word — she just started crying. One of those quiet, overwhelming moments of love that you can't manufacture. I pressed the shutter. That image ended up being one of the most important photographs of the whole day.

During the ceremony, a violinist played on the terrace as the sun began to drop over the sea. The combination of the music, the light, the stone walls, and the faces of the people who loved them — it was genuinely moving.

I gathered everyone on the restaurant terrace and shot from above with a drone. The medieval rooftops of Èze spread out behind them. Nobody expected it. Everyone loved it.

And then the bouquet toss — just Emily and her niece, who must have been around ten years old. The little girl caught it. The look on her face. You can't plan those moments. You just have to be ready.

A few days later, I received this email:

"Hi Jérémie, Wow!!! We are in tears! The photos are more beautiful than we could have even imagined. Thank you so much!!!!!!! We absolutely will share a glowing review. Thank you again so much. All the best, Emily & Conor"

That's why I do this.

The Best Spots for Wedding Photos at Château Eza

After more than four weddings here — plus dozens of couple sessions in the village — I know every corner of Èze. Here are the spots I always come back to.

The main terrace at golden hour. The one everyone knows, and for good reason. But the timing matters enormously. Come back to this below.

The village alleys just outside the château. The pedestrian streets of Èze are incredibly photogenic. Narrow, stone-paved, ivy-covered walls, and archways that frame the sea. I've made some of my favourite images here, in the 20-minute window between the ceremony and aperitif.

The archways and doorways. There are several old wooden doors and stone arches in the village that create natural frames. The light through them in late afternoon is extraordinary.

The drone perspective. The village below, the Mediterranean to the horizon. An aerial shot here is unlike anything you can get at ground level. I use it deliberately — usually for the group photo — because it gives you a sense of place that no standard wide-angle lens can replicate.

Practical Tips for Your Wedding Day at Château Eza

Plan your ceremony for late afternoon. The golden hour light at Château Eza is one of the best I've ever worked with. Start your ceremony at 5–6pm in summer. You get warm light throughout, then a spectacular sunset for your couple session. If you plan your ceremony at midday, you're fighting harsh overhead light and losing the most magical hour of the day.

Book accommodation on site. The village of Èze is entirely pedestrian — no cars, no access for vehicles. This is one of the things that makes it so special. But it also means your guests need to walk from the car parks at the base of the village. I strongly recommend staying at the château. If you can, book the Royal Suite — sea-view terrace, outdoor jacuzzi. Worth every penny. Getting ready on site makes the morning completely different: no logistics stress, no transport, just calm.

Brief your guests on shoes. I say this to every couple: tell guests to wear flat shoes for the walk up. They can change into heels once they arrive. The cobblestones are beautiful but uneven. Nobody wants to twist an ankle on the way to your ceremony.

Arrive early, or stay on site. The walk from the car park to the château takes 10–15 minutes and involves a fair number of steps. Build this into your timeline. Arriving rushed is the one thing that can take the edge off the morning.

Trust the venue with the dinner. The restaurant at Château Eza holds a Michelin star. Your guests will not forget the food.

Wedding at Manoir de l'Étang | Mougins, French Riviera

Some venues feel complete the moment you arrive. Everything is already in place — the light, the atmosphere, the architecture, the gardens. You walk in and understand immediately why someone chose this place for the most important day of their life.

Manoir de l'Étang is one of those venues. I've photographed weddings here more than once. Yangkyi & Sven's wedding — a warm late-August celebration in the hills above Mougins — is the one I come back to most often. It showed me what a French Riviera wedding can be at its best.

The Manoir de l'Étang — What You Need to Know

The Manoir de l'Étang sits in Mougins, a hilltop village a short drive from Cannes. It feels completely removed from the Côte d'Azur's energy — surrounded by pine forests, overlooking the valley, with a quiet that's rare this close to the coast. Yet Nice, Cannes, and Antibes are all within easy reach.

The property takes its name from the peaceful lily pond at its heart. A 19th-century Provençal manor house — terracotta roof, shuttered windows, pale stone. Restored carefully, historic rather than reconstructed. It fits between 50 and 100 guests comfortably, with 22 rooms on site. For destination weddings where guests are flying in from abroad, that matters enormously.

What makes it work photographically is the layout. Each space has its own character. Nothing feels disjointed. Preparation, ceremony, cocktail, dinner, dancing — each part of the day has a setting made for it.

The Wedding Spaces at Manoir de l'Étang

The Gardens — for the Ceremony

The ceremony takes place beneath the manor's ancient oak tree. Multi-centennial, vast, with a canopy that shades a large gathering without closing it in. Rows of chairs on the lawn, the manor as a backdrop, the tree overhead. It's one of the most quietly powerful ceremony settings I've worked in.

The garden layout also gives the bride a proper entrance. Far enough from the ceremony spot to build anticipation, close enough that the walk feels intimate rather than theatrical.

The Terrace — for the Cocktail

After the ceremony, guests follow the pathway up to the terrace for cocktails. A natural transition — the path creates a moment of movement and conversation before the next part of the day begins. The views over the valley are exceptional from up here.

The Pool — for Dinner

Dinner at Manoir de l'Étang is served beside the pool. Tables under cypress trees, views over the countryside, soft lighting as the evening falls. In late August, when the heat of the day has softened and the light turns golden, this is one of the most beautiful dinner settings on the French Riviera.

The Lawn Below the Pool — for the Couple Session

Below the pool, slightly away from the main activity of the venue, there's a lower lawn among the olive trees. Away from the guests, away from the noise, with open light and complete calm. It's quieter, more private, and produces a different kind of image — looser, more intimate, less "venue shot". I always suggest it. Most couples don't know it exists until they're standing in it.

Yangkyi & Sven's Wedding at Manoir de l'Étang

Late August. Around eighty guests, Swiss couple, the kind of crowd that laughs easily and dances hard. The mood shifted beautifully through the day — relaxed and warm in the afternoon, genuinely festive by the evening.

The ceremony under the oak tree was one of the most good-natured I've photographed. A lot of laughter, a few quiet tears of joy. You could feel how much everyone in those rows loved the two people standing at the front. The floral decoration was exceptional — ceremony arch, table settings, the bride's bouquet. Every detail had been thought through. It elevated the whole day without ever feeling overdone.

After the ceremony, I took Yangkyi and Sven to the lower lawn among the olive trees. They wanted to keep it short — they were enjoying the cocktail and didn't want to miss too much of it — but the light was perfect and the setting did the work for us. A handful of minutes, the right light, two people at ease with each other. That's usually enough.

Dinner beside the pool as the sun went down. The valley below, the cypress trees overhead, the tables lit by the soft evening light. And then the party — by the time the dancing started, any remaining formality had long dissolved.

Practical Tips for a Wedding at Manoir de l'Étang

Plan your ceremony for late afternoon. The oak tree provides shade, so the midday heat is manageable. But the light in late afternoon is in a different category. A 5pm ceremony in August gives you golden light for the couple session and a stunning backdrop for dinner as the sun sets over the valley.
Use the lower lawn for your couple session. Most couples default to the terrace or the pool area. The lower lawn among the olive trees is the better choice — quieter, more private, and the images it produces are consistently the strongest of the day.
Book accommodation on site. With 22 rooms available, getting the wedding party and closest guests on site changes the whole feel of the day. No logistics stress, no racing against a clock. The morning is calmer, the evening runs longer.
Trust the venue with the florals. The florist work at Yangkyi & Sven's wedding — from the ceremony through to the table settings — was some of the best I've seen on the Riviera. The partnerships here tend to be exceptional.

Monaco, with its breathtaking landscapes and romantic allure, served as the perfect backdrop for Nils and Donna to organize a magical proposal. The setting was meticulously planned, capturing the essence of their love story and the beauty of the Principality. Here's a glimpse into their magical day, filled with love, emotion, and stunning vistas.

Nils and Donna have shared many memorable moments together, but none would be as significant as the day Nils asked Donna to be his forever. Nils, whose family resides in Monaco, chose the picturesque locations of Cap d'Ail and Pointe de la Tête de Chien to orchestrate a proposal that would be as symbolic as it was beautiful.

Nils, aiming to surprise Donna, cleverly planned a couple's photo shoot to justify my presence. Donna, dressed in a stunning camaieu of blue, complemented the Mediterranean backdrop perfectly. Her dress fluttered in the gentle sea breeze as the couple posed for intimate shots, unaware of the surprise that awaited her.

Nils, dressed in a light grey suit paired with boat deck shoes, looked both casual and elegant. Despite his composed appearance, he was hiding a storm of emotions. The anticipation of the proposal made his heart race, but he maintained his composure to keep the surprise intact.

After the photo shoot at Pointe des Douaniers, Nils led Donna to Pointe de la Tête de Chien. The high vantage point offered a sweeping view of Monaco, symbolizing the vast and promising future that lay ahead of them. As they stood there, Donna now in a short, elegant orange dress that contrasted beautifully against the blue sky and the deep blue sea below, Nils knew it was the perfect moment.

With trembling hands and a heart full of love, Nils took a deep breath and dropped to one knee. His voice, though shaky, was filled with sincerity and emotion as he asked Donna to marry him. The moment seemed to pause, as if the world held its breath along with Donna.

Donna's reaction was a blend of surprise and overwhelming emotion. Waves of joy welled up in her eyes as she realized the depth of Nils' love and the thoughtfulness of his plan. Her "yes" was filled with heartfelt emotion, a promise of a lifetime together. The tension in Nils' face melted away, replaced by sheer happiness and relief.

The happiness and love between them were palpable, making for some truly magical photos. The orange of Donna's dress symbolized warmth and excitement, while Nils' light grey suit reflected elegance and grace.

Every click of the camera captured the essence of their bond, the joy of their engagement, and the promise of a beautiful future. Monaco's stunning vistas provided the perfect canvas for their love story, making each photograph a treasured memory.

In the heart of the enchanting French Riviera, nestled within the charming medieval village of Eze, a love story reached a new pinnacle at the luxurious Hotel Château de la Chèvre d’Or. The stage was set for an unforgettable proposal, meticulously planned by Jax and I, who had crafted the perfect surprise for Suzanne in the hotel's exquisite rose gardens.

The day began with Jax convincing Suzanne that they were scheduled for a romantic couple's photo shoot. Suzanne, elegantly dressed in a stunning black dress, and Jax, looking dapper in a dark blue suit paired with a crisp white shirt, arrived at the hotel with excitement and anticipation. The Château de la Chèvre d'Or, renowned for its breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea and its beautifully manicured gardens, was the perfect backdrop for what Jax had in store.

As they strolled through the lush rose gardens, the sweet scent of roses wafted through the air. The garden's magical ambiance, with its vibrant blooms and panoramic sea views, created an almost ethereal atmosphere. Amidst this beauty, a violinist awaited their arrival, discreetly positioned to maintain the element of surprise.

When Jax and Suzanne reached the designated spot, the violinist began to play "All of Me" by John Legend. The romantic melody filled the air, enhancing the already captivating environment. Suzanne's eyes sparkled with delight, suspecting that this moment was about to become even more special.

Jax, though visibly nervous, gathered his courage. He took a deep breath, his heart pounding with anticipation. With every step towards Suzanne, his resolve strengthened. Editorial wedding photoshoot in Paris

Today I’m reporting back from Estelle and Darwin’s editorial photoshoot.

A magnificent setting

These two Parisians who had married in the South of France wanted some beautiful photos of them in their wedding attire in the heart of the city they grew up in.

We met one cold morning in May at the Trocadero.

Despite the chill in the air, they relaxed right away and the photos of these two lovebirds are simply beautiful.

We then went on to the 7th arrondissment in search of the typical atmosphere of the Parisian streets and Haussmannian buildings, ending up on the Alexander III bridge.

This day-after shoot was one of my first far from my native Provence but reproducing the Parisian atmosphere and the magic of the surroundings was a pleasure.

An engagement shoot in paradise

I had the great pleasure of meeting Bianca and Daniel on the Greek island paradise of Santorini for their engagement shoot . Engagement shoots are usually done a year, six months or one month before your big day and offer a number of benefits as well as being an exceptionally beautiful memento of your engagement.

Why do an engagement shoot?

For Bianca and Daniel, a young Romanian couple who live in Manchester, this engagement shoot was the opportunity to have some beautiful shots to use on their wedding invitations , to indulge and make memories whilst getting used to the presence of the photographer .

These shoots enable you to grow in confidence and get used to the camera. As a result, on the big day you will be more relaxed , used to the photographer’s presence and confident that you have chosen the right one! This is also an opportunity to take some time off from your wedding planning which is often stressful. This shoot will be a wonderful break, allowing you to refocus your preparations on your relationship and your shared happiness.

Santorini, a magical setting

The location is an important choice for your couple portraits . Choose somewhere that is important to you and has meaning for both of you, perhaps where you first met or where you got engaged . It could also be somewhere you have always dreamed of going, anything is possible. Travelling has never been so easy so take advantage of special offers and head off! I was thrilled that this lovely couple had chosen Santorini as the location for their engagement shoot and it was taken during a walk through the little village of Imerovigli . I chose this village as it’s less touristy than Fira et Oia which meant that the couple felt less conspicuous and could enjoy their time together. The three of us wandered through tiny deserted streets using the opportunity to capture special moments and glances whilst enjoying the sunshine, the sky and the iconic blue roofs. I took reportage-style photos to allow the models’ true personality to shine through, together with traditional photos, more staged but still very natural.

Bianca and Daniel both wore pastel-coloured clothing which was in perfect harmony with the white walls of the village, blue of the water and the traditional Greek roofs which in turn contrasted with the bright pink of the bougainvillea, and ensured that the photos really conveyed the special atmosphere of the Greek Islands that they had fallen in love with.

In the 17th and 18th centuries, the land on which the Domaine stands was likely used as a traditional Provençal mas (the French word for typical house) —a working farmstead where olive oil, wine, and other staples were produced. On one side a very spring-like yellow and on the other a very Provencal purple. Some venues you visit once and never forget. Château de Varennes is one of them.

I was part of the photography team for a wedding here. From the moment I arrived, I understood why couples fly in from across the world to get married in this place. The château sits in the heart of Burgundy, surrounded by vineyards and rolling hills, nearly 1,000 years of history held in its stone walls. It is one of the most complete wedding venues I've ever worked in. And the images we made that day are among the finest in my portfolio.

Dinner is set up in the courtyard in front of the château — one of the most cinematic settings I've photographed in. The stone façade, the candlelight, the long tables dressed with precision.

That evening, the decoration was restrained — nothing overdone, everything intentional. The caterer matched the setting perfectly. Local Burgundy wines, a menu that was genuinely exceptional.

The Dance Floor Between the Château and the Chapel

For the evening, a wooden parquet dance floor was installed in the space between the château and the chapel. Open air, under the stars, with the château lit behind. It's the kind of detail that sounds simple and looks extraordinary in photographs.

The Indoor Salon and Grand Hall

For ceremonies or dinners that move inside, the château's restored interior is remarkable. Fireplaces, libraries, period furniture — maintained with care. The bridal suite where Maria got ready had the kind of light that makes preparation photographs easy. Large windows, soft reflections, a room that felt genuinely alive.

The Lavender Field Behind the Chapel

This is the detail I didn't expect — and one of the most memorable parts of the day photographically. Behind the chapel, the owners have planted a lavender field. In Burgundy.

Formal grandeur on one side, loose fragrant lavender on the other. The contrast creates something rare — images that feel luxurious and free at the same time. The couple session in those lavenders produced some of the most beautiful frames of the entire day.

The Swimming Pool — for the Morning After

The estate also has a swimming pool — ideal for a post-wedding brunch or a relaxed morning-after gathering. When guests have flown in from abroad, that space lets the celebration breathe into the next morning.

Maria & Mathieu's Wedding at Château de Varennes

I was part of the photography team that day, and every detail of this wedding has stayed with me.

Maria got ready in the bridal suite. In the adjacent salon, her hair and makeup artists worked on her and her bridesmaids and mother. The atmosphere was relaxed — full of laughter, full of warmth. And then, once her dress was on, she started to dance. In the middle of the suite, surrounded by her mother and friends. That moment — spontaneous, completely unplanned — is one of the most joyful frames I've ever made.

On Mathieu's side, the atmosphere was quieter. The groomsmen finished their preparations before raising a toast to the groom. Both sides had their own rhythm, their own story.

Before the ceremony, Maria and Mathieu chose to see each other privately in the chapel — away from the guests, away from the noise. The emotion in that moment was real and quiet. Then it was time to walk to the park.

The bridesmaids wore matching dresses — the same colour, chosen together. The groomsmen matched too, their suits a considered complement to the palette of the day. The table settings were meticulous. Every element had been thought through. This was a couple who understood that a wedding is a work of art, and they treated it as one.

And the couple themselves — they photographed beautifully. Naturally, effortlessly. The kind of subjects who make a photographer's work look easy.

Book accommodation nearby for your guests. The château sleeps up to 40 guests across 20 rooms and 12 suites — enough for intimate celebrations. For larger guest lists, block rooms at nearby hotels early. The region fills up fast in summer.

Plan for the lavender. The lavender blooms from late June to mid-July. Very few venues in France can offer anything like it. Build a couple session there into your timeline — it's 20 minutes that will produce some of the most distinctive images of your day.

The venue handles everything on site. Many French châteaux need a long list of external vendors. Château de Varennes handles the full experience on site. Catering, accommodation, spaces for every moment of the day — the logistics work in your favour.

The light in Burgundy. The region sits further north than Provence, which means longer golden hours in summer. In June and July, you have beautiful light well past 9pm. Plan your couple session for the last hour before sunset.
