Château Eza — The Terrace with the WOW Reaction
Château Eza has a terrace that looks out over the Mediterranean at one of the highest points of the village. I've photographed proposals there. The reaction I see every time is the same — a genuine, involuntary WOW the moment the couple steps out and takes in the view. Before anything has even been said.

Suzanne & Jax's Proposal at Château de la Chèvre d'Or
Jax contacted me through an agency. He was planning a surprise from thousands of miles away and needed someone on the ground he could trust. He had a vision. My job was to make it happen without Suzanne having any idea.
The cover story was a couple's photo shoot — a romantic souvenir of their French Riviera holiday. Suzanne arrived at the Chèvre d'Or in an elegant black dress. Jax wore a dark blue suit, white shirt. They looked like they were already dressed for something special, which of course they were — only one of them knew it.
As we moved through the rose gardens, a violinist was already in position, waiting discreetly. Suzanne had no idea. When they reached the spot — roses on all sides, the Mediterranean stretching below — the violinist began to play All of Me by John Legend.
Suzanne's eyes sparkled. She sensed something was shifting. And then Jax went down on one knee.
Her hands went to her mouth. Tears came immediately. She said yes before he had finished the sentence.
He gave her a bouquet of red roses. They opened champagne. We spent the next hour making photographs in those gardens — two people who had just started a new chapter, still a little stunned by it, completely happy.

The cover story. The most reliable approach is the couple photo shoot — "I booked us a session as a souvenir of the trip." It works. People dress up for it, they're relaxed, they're happy. And when the proposal happens, the camera is already there.

Practical Tips for Your Proposal in Eze
Plan for late afternoon. The light in Eze in the hour before sunset is extraordinary. The warm glow on the stone buildings, the colours over the sea — it's the window that produces the most beautiful photographs. Time the proposal for this hour if you can.
Eze is entirely pedestrian. No cars in the village. Your partner will walk from the car park at the base — factor this into your timing, and brief them to wear shoes they can walk in on cobblestones. They can change into heels once they arrive.
Book early. Summer dates — particularly June, July, and August — fill quickly. The best spots in the village also get busy with tourists in peak season. Earlier in the day or late afternoon tends to be quieter.
